The Calista Strategic Plan serves as the blueprint being used to build the corporation into a financially strong company which can provide benefits to its shareholders. As part of this plan the corporation adopted the "ista" theme for naming subsidiaries, following the corporate name "Calista," which in the Yup'ik language translates to "Cali" which means work and "ista" which means someone or something which does. The "ista" theme reflects Calista's proactive business posture as expressed by its mission statement. The strategic plan focuses on investments which promote Calista region oriented economic development and/or shareholder training and employment opportunities.

As part of the Strategic Plan, the corporation is exploring ways to capitalize on the mineral potential of the region which includes precious metals, industrial materials, and hydrocarbons. Calista is also exploring means of lowering electrical generation costs in the region through hydro power generation, and other alternative energy sources such as natural gas. In addition, Calista is pursuing the development of regional clean water and waste water programs in cooperation with the regional non-profit organization, and economical fuel and merchandise distribution through the formation of cooperatives and companies.

Akilista Fund

Included in the Calista Strategic Plan, was the creation of the Akilista Fund whereby each year ten percent of 7(i) receipts and net profit from operations are set aside in a savings account. The purpose of the Akilista Fund is to build a long-term investment portfolio, provide financial assistance to the Calista Scholarship Fund, and as the fund grows, to become a source of shareholder dividends and/or other shareholder programs. Ten percent of Calista's annual Akilista Fund contribution is donated to the Calista Scholarship Fund.
