Calista Corp. and Napaimute Request State Funding for Kuskokwim Ice Road

Ice Road Maintenance Funding Vetoed Last Year

Calista Corp. and the Native Village of Napaimute have asked Gov. Mike Dunleavy and legislative leadership to provide funds for the Native Village of Napaimute to construct and maintain safety of the Kuskokwim Ice Road.

The Kuskokwim Ice Road serves communities from Kasigluk to Crooked Creek and in some winters is over 300 miles long, connecting 17 or more villages.  Just this week, the Tribe’s maintenance team plowed the Kuskokwim Ice Road from Akiachak to Bethel during a severe storm to accommodate a medical emergency, escorting an Elder in need of emergency treatment.
