Calista Shareholders Urge Alaskans to Respond to 2020 Census

September 2, 2020

Quyana to young Calista Shareholders participating in videos that urge Alaskans to respond to the 2020 Census!

What’s at stake?

We should all be concerned about the consequences of an incomplete Census count for our Tribes and communities.

An undercount of just 1 percent will cost Alaskans over $200 million in lost funding over 10 years.

The deadline to respond to the Census is September 30, 2020. Respond today at 2020census.gov or by calling 844-330-2020.

Avoid a visit to your house!

If you haven’t responded yet, a census taker will visit your household soon.

If you would want to respond without a visit to your door, it’s not too late. You can respond to the Census online, by phone, or by mail.

Please note that the remote rural count in Alaska is successfully completed. Census takers are visiting households in more populated areas of Alaska, including Bethel.

Alaska’s response rate is improving!

As of Sunday, August 31, Alaskans had responded to the Census at a rate of 86.6 percent. That is higher than the national average of 83.2 percent.

And yet, some hub communities continue to have a low response rate that jeopardizes federal funding support. Example: the Census count continues in Bethel, which has a very low response rate of 36 percent!

Let’s keep working toward a complete count of all Alaska households!
