Wayne Don Becomes Highest Ranking Alaska Native Currently Serving in Alaska National Guard

The Alaska National Guard promoted Wayne Don, a Calista Corporation Director, from colonel to brigadier general in February. Don becomes the highest-ranking Alaska Native currently serving in the Alaska National Guard.

Don first entered military service in 1994, receiving a commission in the U.S. Army as an infantry officer through the University of Alaska Fairbanks ROTC. He transitioned to the Alaska Army National Guard in 2005.

Don currently serves as the Director of the Joint Staff for the Alaska National Guard. He also serves as Chair for his village corporation NIMA Corporation in Mekoryuk. Don has served on the Calista Board since 2016.
