Calista Brice Subsidiaries Recognized for Prioritizing Workplace Safety

Our Calista Brice holding line specializing in construction, engineering and environmental services recorded significant safety milestones, awards and business accomplishments over the past year.
Some highlights include:
- A 15 percent reduction in total recordable incident rate
- Three years with zero recordable injuries in its business unit for vertical construction (Brice Pacific, STG Pacific and Brice Builders)
- Continued growth to 1,086 employees nationwide (now including multiple operations on the East Coast)
Company leadership credits these results to work teams—and individuals—looking out for each other, following through on safety commitments and making continuous improvement in how they operate.

For his lifesaving action to help a coworker experiencing a medical emergency at a remote job site on the Seward Peninsula, Bud Bennett of Brice Builders won a Governor’s Special Achievement Award at the 2026 Alaska Governor’s Safety and Health Conference.

Another employee, Brett Foster of Brice Environmental, won an Excellence in Safety Award in late 2025 from the Associated General Contractors of Alaska. He was nominated by coworkers who credit him for safety accomplishments including zero Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordable incidents across seven federal and military projects over the previous five years.
“We work to build a strong safety mindset and culture by making it a core value rather than a compliance requirement,” explains Mac Stevens, Calista Brice Director of Safety & Risk. “It starts with leadership setting clear expectations and demonstrating that safety is a priority in every operation, regardless of schedule or project demands.”
One of the ways that Calista Brice integrates a safety mindset through its 23 subsidiaries is through a corporate-wide safety committee. This committee enables discussion and problem solving by various kinds of employees within the holding line who bring solutions back to field operations.
Serious injuries are tragic, not only for the worker but also for the worker’s family and community. They can be very expensive to Calista. Having a workforce prioritizing safety increases employee morale, accountability and teamwork. Plus, Stevens said, “When you know the person next to you is watching out for you, it goes a long way to making our colleagues more like family.”
