$252,000 in Contributions Received at 14th Annual Calista Golf Classic

More than $1.2 million in scholarships awarded since 2010

(Anchorage, Alaska) – Calista Heritage Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, announced today that $252,000 in contributions was received at the 14th Annual Calista Golf Classic. Held June 19 at Moose Run Golf Course, the event to raise scholarship funds was hosted by Ariel Tweto and Stephen Qacung Blanchett.

“Since 2003 the scholarships awarded each year has increased,” said CHF President/CEO Rea Bavilla. “This remarkable achievement is only possible due to the generous participation of businesses and organizations. We are extremely grateful as hundreds of students have earned and continue to earn pilot certification, bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees, vocational training and more.”

In 2012, CHF awarded $460,000 in scholarships and, most recently, $177,000 in scholarships for the spring 2013 semester. Since the scholarship program was formally created in 1994, more than $3.2 million in scholarships have been awarded. $1.2 million of that total has been awarded since 2010.

More than 1,500 students have benefited from this program. In 2012 the top five schools scholarship recipients attended were University of Alaska (UA) Anchorage, UA Fairbanks, Alaska Career College, UA Fairbanks – Kuskokwim Campus and Bethel’s Yuut Yaqungviat flight school.

Stephen Qacung Blanchett grew up in the Yup’ik community of Bethel, Alaska and is one of the founders of the award-winning musical group Pamyua. Ariel Tweto is on the popular television series “Flying Wild Alaska” which aired on Discovery Channel.
