Calista Heritage Foundation Approves $405,000 In Scholarships

$3.3 Million in Lifetime Scholarships 

(Anchorage, Alaska) – The Calista Heritage Foundation (CHF) announced they approved $228,000 in scholarships for the fall semester. Year-to-date the total scholarship distribution is $405,000 to about 300 students. Life-to-date more than $3.3 million in scholarships have been awarded. All scholarship recipients are Calista Corporation Shareholders or Descendants. 

For the fall semester 271 students are receiving scholarships, 16 of whom are in graduate programs, the average GPA is 3.13, and 47 of the 56 villages in the Calista region are represented. 

The top five fields of study this semester are nursing, business, education, biology and information technology. The top five schools students are attending are University of Alaska (UA) Anchorage, UA Fairbanks, UA Fairbanks – Kuskokwim Campus, AVTEC in Seward and Colorado’s Fort Lewis College. 

“The students from the Calista region are clearly preparing themselves for the future with their chosen majors,” said Calista Heritage Foundation President Rea Bavilla. “Our main fundraising is through our annual Calista Golf Classic.”
