Extended to Friday 10/4! Y-K Youth Summit Parent Release and Authorizations due Oct. 8 (Tuesday) at 12p
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Calista Corporation is very pleased that your student has been nominated by the Tribe to participate in a one-day Calista Y-K Youth Summit on ANCSA.
In December 1971, Congress and President Nixon signed into law the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). ANCSA extinguished aboriginal land title in Alaska and formed regional and village Alaska Native Corporations with three primary goals: to promote the socio-economic well-being of their respective regions or communities, to select and be stewards of a portion of Alaska Native homelands, and to be successful for-profit organizations.
More than 50 years later, ANCSA remains a mystery for many Alaskans, despite its profound impact on our lives. To help increase transparency and educate our younger generation, Calista Corporation (Calista) is hosting in Anchorage a one-day Yukon-Kuskokwim Youth Summit to learn about the history, challenges, and opportunities of ANCSA. The first Summit was held March 2023 in Bethel.
To participate, the student’s parent/guardian must sign and agree to all releases and authorizations by September 25, 2024.
