Yukon-Kuskokwim Regionwide Survey
Strengthening the Y-K Region through data, transparency and collaboration
Calista Corporation is working with Future Elder, an Alaska Native-owned communications firm, to collect, summarize and share critical data that reflects the economic development, sustainability and well-being of communities across the Region.
This initiative will engage all 45 Alaska Native Village Corporations and 56 Tribal Nations across the Y-K Region to ensure every community’s voice and experience are represented.
Why this matters
Reliable data helps Calista, Tribal Governments and Village Corporations:
- Track how 7(j) distributions are benefiting communities
- Identify local and regional challenges, priorities and opportunities
- Inform long-term planning and funding decisions
- Strengthen advocacy and self-determination across the Region
This effort helps identify needs, challenges and opportunities for locally driven development, sustainability and resilience.
What will the survey focus on?
Village Corporations
- ANCSA 7(j) Distributions: How funds are used to benefit Shareholders through dividends, services or community programs.
Tribal Governments and Village Corporations
- Services Provided to Tribal Citizens: Information about Tribal courts, social services, fuel programs, and infrastructure (housing, energy, transportation systems, water and sewer, and broadband connectivity)
- Challenges and Needs: Data related to economic development, reliable energy, transportation, internet connectivity, education, workforce, safety and access to Traditional food systems
- Transportation Infrastructure: Information on trail systems, roads, runways, barge landings, and other key facilities
How Data Will Be Used
- All data will be collected respectfully and securely
- Individual community and corporation information will remain confidential unless otherwise agreed upon
- Summarized, regional-level findings will be shared transparently with all participating entities
- Results will support regional advocacy, planning, and funding efforts — not external reporting or compliance
