(Anchorage, Alaska) – Calista Corporation congratulates Mary Peltola on her historic special election win to the U.S. House of Representatives. She will serve in the role until the start of the new Congress following the results for the general election this November.

“Our Shareholders and our communities in the Calista Region can expect many benefits from Mary Peltola holding Alaska’s sole seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, and we are proud to see the first Alaska Native person to serve in Congress is a Yup’ik woman and a Calista Shareholder.

Mary’s innate understanding of the importance of subsistence activities for the Calista Region will be one of her key contributions in the coming months.”

Calista Corporation Board Chair Willie Kasayulie

Calista President/CEO Andrew Guy said, “Mary’s new role is timely with the crash of the salmon runs in the last two years. Calista has for years been advocating for holistic approach and especially action into the causes of the diminished fish returns.”
