Susan Jones of Bethel follows her passion for bead weaving

Susan Jones is a Calista Corp. Shareholder from Bethel whose passion for bead weaving led to creating her own business, Designs By Suz.

“I have been drawn to create from a young age, but when I dove into teaching myself to bead weave, I just couldn’t stop!” Susan says.

“My favorite offerings are my yuraq earrings and jumping salmon earrings,” Susan says. “The movement between each side of the yuraq earrings makes them one of my most artistic pairs.”

How she started

“Once I shared my work on social media, I quickly came to have many requests for orders,” Susan says.

“It just made sense to register for business licenses (state and local) so I could sell my work on sales platforms, both for greater visibility and to streamline order processing, to then use that time to expand offerings.”

Advice for fellow Shareholders

Susan’s advice for Shareholders who are starting a business is to learn about business modeling and analyze the market value of similar products and services.

“If you are starting a business in the arts, you may have some difficulty seeing the true value of your skill, time and work,” and so business modeling will help you charge appropriately, she explains.
