“The Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Region still struggles with poor socio-economic conditions 40 years after ANCSA,” said co-facilitator Nelson Angapak. “We see successful models of regional tribal collaboration with the Inupiat Community of the Arctic Slope and the Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska.”
“Other tribes in Alaska and nationally have proven they can form partnerships and maintain individual tribal sovereignty,” said co-facilitator Carl T. Jack. “Only governmental organizations can threaten each tribe’s sovereignty. We should follow our traditional cultural values of collaboration and respect, in order to protect and preserve our traditional and cultural ways of life.” |
